Heavy Equipment Training for Indigenous Partners

Our commitment to Indigenous communities

IHE would like to acknowledge that our corporate office, as well as our training sites are located on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan, Treaty 6, and Treaty 7 people of Canada.

We are committed to facilitating training to employment for Indigenous students through means that are suitable to the communities. We will collaborate and consult with our Indigenous partners to create specific training programs that meet required needs.
For groups of 10 or more students, IHE is able to bring the necessary equipment, instructors and theory sessions to the community thereby allowing students to remain in their homes for the duration of their training.
For smaller groups, IHE can customize a training program that will incorporate not only requisite training, but also include travel, accommodation and a meal plan for students travelling to our sites for training.
In 2021, we brought a training program to the Sikedakh territory in Glen Vowel for six months. We taught two 10-week programs to students in their own community giving them the qualifications, knowledge and seat time to apply for work in their area. These students were able to advance their skills on their home territory during the COVID-19 lock down of the community.
Alden, Chiniki HRD Manager
“They really did such a good job. We have asked them back as we plan to open a gravel pit on our land this Fall. Hopefully IHE can help us train and staff that as well.”
