IHE trains on industry-sized heavy equipment commonly found on real job sites. Our courses include hands-on machine practice and training, field theory, safety ticket training, and preventive maintenance instructions, too. Building a resume, mock job interviews, and a career exploration assignment will help ensure you are ready to rock and off to work right after graduation.

Heavy equipment operators are employed in a variety of work sectors like forestry, mining, civil, road building, transportation and oil and gas.

Did you know, there is a labour shortage of operators right now in Canada? The average age of our students is 35 to 55 years old, and for many, this is their second or third career.

Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)

CSTS 2020 is the upgraded version of CSTS-09. CSTS 2020 is comprised of nine standard modules grouped together which serves as a general construction site orientation for workers new to the construction industry. CSTS was upgraded to a new version in order to better reflect industry best practices, as well as account for legislative changes to Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

First Aid

This course teaches workers how to recognize and provide intervention for life-threatening emergencies until professional medical assistance arrives.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

This comprehensive Online WHMIS course is an engaging and thorough exploration of WHMIS basics. The course content includes:

GD2 Ground Disturbance 2

The Level II course is a 6.5 hour program that is designed for any party that is supervising a ground disturbance, independently performing a ground disturbance, or issuing and receiving ground disturbance permits.

The program ensures that Level II personnel are familiar with, and fully understand, all the regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place.

Level II is the standardized program recognized by industry regulators. Certification is valid for 3 years. This course is assessed to the ABCGA 201 Ground Disturbance Standards

Driver Training

Class 1 and 3 licenses are required for specific job duties on a work site that utilizes heavy equipment. We facilitate acquisition of these licenses through third party partners so our students can acquire the requisite licenses for the jobs they go to.

Class 1 Driver Training (Semi-trailers)

Students acquire a class one license so they are able to drive a flat deck semi in order to haul heavy equipment to job sites.

Class 3 Driver Training (multiple axle vehicles)

  • To drive trucks with more than two axles, such as dump trucks and large tow trucks but does not allow driving a bus carrying passengers
  • To drive a tow car towing a vehicle of any weight
  • To drive a mobile truck crane
